Dayton,
Washington Tile Painting Party Set
Up at Flour Mill Park on Main Street
(Highway 12).

Residents
from Dayton, Prescott & Waitsburg
paint tiles for the Touchet Valley
Unity wall. There will be tile
mural walls in each of these three
Washington State cities.
The first
Tile Painting Party was held in
Flour Mill Park in Dayton,
Washington and was the result of
leadership training by the Sherwood
Trust and other fundraising efforts
by the Cities' Leadership Group.

Tile
painting is free for residents of
Dayton, Prescott & Waitsburg.
Part of the money to pay for the
tiles is from the sale of bricks
that will be used to build the mural
bases. People can buy a brick
and have their names engraved on
them to help sponsor the Touchet
Valley Unity Wall.

Many local
artists spent several hours painting
their tiles.

Prescott,
Washington Tile Painting Party Setup
for the Touchet Valley Unity Wall.

Tables and
chairs where arranged under the
eaves of the local school to provide
shade cover during the event.
As it was 105 degrees outside, we
were very grateful for the shade.

Dusty was
one of the first painters at the
Prescott Tile Painting Party.
Dusty helped haul over water in the
5 gallon buckets we provided for the
event.

Several of
the first painters at the Prescott
event.

Many
painters went to the Prescott pool
(including ceramic artist Lizette
Fife and her daughter Adrienne) as
it was only 10 cents to go swimming
on July 1.

Members of
the local Crime Watch group helped
coordinate the town potluck barbeque
and painted tiles too.

Some
members of the Leadership Group
glazed tiles with the white base
glaze under the shade of the trees.
Others Leadership Group members
instructed the painters on how to
properly apply the decorative glazes
onto their tiles and other necessary
duties.

Rosy
Nechodom cut shelf liner
into 4" squares to go
between the tiles to provide
cushioning, separation, and to
protect the tiles during transit.

Fifty-nine
tiles were painted in a town of
around 300 people. That
represents a wonderful turnout for
the first Prescott event.

Touchet Valley Unity Wall -
Waitsburg, WA
Waitsburg,
Washington Tile Painting Party for
Touchet Valley Unity Wall.

Tile
Painting in Waitsburg was in the
yard at the lovely Bruce Mansion.

Families in
Waitsburg came out in a steady
stream to paint tiles for the mural.

We had a
lovely breeze all day that kept us
comfortable and we moved the tables
around during the day to stay under
the shade of the trees. Patty
Eng and Deanne in the mid-ground.

People
enjoyed painting the tiles.
Several people even painted two
tiles for a total of 170 tiles
painted that day. Thank
goodness for the help of the Touchet
Valley Leadership as artist Lizette
Fife was busy diluting glazes and
glazing tiles most of the day!
